Lost in the Sauce is all about using the PEGA platform and things I’ve learned while using this application to create a portal for our agency’s Customer Service Representatives to assist people around the United States. Our product owner’s wanted one application that all technicians can use to serve people. Not 15 applications that each served only on policy or purpose.
So, this site is a personal journal about learning this ecosystem that I now live in. Yeah, occasionally I get to dabble in JavaScript or Java, but my daily programming tasks revolve around the Dev Studio and the Customer Service application. Did I mention how much I disliked this software? No kidding, my first six months of on the job training had me complaining every night about what I did not like and/or understand. Many lunch breaks were spent browsing job boards and temporary position advertisements.
Six months into the 18 month timeframe the consultants told our leadership it would take for a developer be become self sufficient in working with the PEGA platform, I stopped bitching to my wife about how I disgruntle I was about my current position. Sometime in the next 3 months I realized that I believed in what our product owners wanted to achieve in having a Technician Dashboard that provides a consistent approach to Customer Service. PEGA is the tool that they wanted to use to built it.
And that’s just it. simple really, PEGA is a tool. Instead of complaining about the tool, I decided to do my best to learn how to solve problems with it. Any application can be difficult to learn. Just as you get good with it they release a newer version with new gizmos and widgets. The better you know your tools, the easier it becomes to get your work done.
That’s what my goal is. Let’s really learn how to use the PEGA application to provide solutions to our Customer Service Representatives. At times it’s been interesting, other times quite frustrating. I’ve missed more than one standup ;meeting due to being Lost in the Sauce due to hunting down a defect in a process flow or why a data transform is misbehaving.
There are many types of sauces in life. Each adds a little different flair and used correctly adds a little bit of zing to our day. Welcome to being Lost in the Sauce!
